Three Presentations about Pomo Indians
Mendocino Heritage Days is privileged to present lifelong Mendocino County resident Keith White Wolf James, Native American Educator for the Grace Hudson Museum. White Wolf will be making three presentations during Heritage Days.

Program 1 (Jughandle Nature Center, Caspar): Utilizing the raw materials made available to them, indigenous cultures throughout the world have learned how to adapt and survive in even the most extreme of environments. The Pomo Indians are no different, and before contact with the white man, local tribal groups were very adept at converting raw materials into useful, everyday items that many of us take for granted today. Combining a Power Point slide presentation with hands-on objects, White Wolf, Native American Educator for the Grace Hudson Museum, will share his knowledge about the uses of various plant species by the Pomo.

Program 2 (Jughandle Nature Center, Caspar): Lifelong Mendocino County resident Keith White Wolf James will be giving a talk and slide presentation on Pomo history and culture. Using historical and contemporary images, personal experiences, and his expert skills as a storyteller, White Wolf is sure to capture your imagination for what will be an interesting and informative evening. Two digital stories (short movies) produced by the Grace Hudson Museum will also be shown. One of the shorts is about "Squealing" Charlie. a Pomo Indian who lived in Ukiah during the 19th and 20th centuries. The other digital story is about White Wolf's uncle, well-known local resident and athlete Vern Piver. (90 minutes)

Program 3 (Ford House, Mendocino): As part of Living History Day, we will be joined by Keith White Wolf James. White Wolf will be delighting audiences of all ages with Native American storytelling, as well as demonstrations of traditional Native American games such as stick dice and walnut shell dice. Bring the whole family for a truly fun learning experience.
